Christmas-themed bar opens in downtown Orlando

Merry Christmas and pass me a beer.

That could be the slogan of a new Christmas-themed bar in downtown Orlando.

“When you walk through the door hopefully you were brought back to a time of the year where you celebrate with friends and family,” said Todd Ulmer, owner of Frosty’s Christmastime Lounge.

Frosty’s opened to the public Friday and has already gained international attention.

“I’ve got people from Germany asking if they can come with their kids,” Ulmer said.

The bar located on East Central Boulevard features snow-frosted windows on the outside and the feeling of a cozy winter cabin on the inside.

“We want it to be dedicated to celebration,” Ulmer said.

Everywhere you look there are references to the holiday.

Two electronic Santas dance merrily as “A Christmas Story” plays on the television.

A vintage sleigh from the 1800s hangs high above guests as they enter the front door.

“A lot of people miss that when they first come here,” said Ulmer.

It’s not just the ambiance that screams Christmas; it’s also found within the drink menu.

Frosty’s features craft snow cone cocktails that look exactly how they sound.

"Coconuts Roasting on an Open Fire" features shredded coconut, mixed craft alcohol and a black cherry.

Ulmer and his business partner are responsible for other well-known themed bars in the area, including Hawaiian-themed Aku Aku Tiki Bar.

Possibly the most unique element of the space is the snow machine.

“We use it to get the crowd pumped up and it usually works,” Ulmer said.

The snow is actually a sudsy bubble-like element that evaporates quickly. Not knowing when a flurry will happen is part of the fun.

“There is no rhyme or reason to it,” said Ulmer.

Christmas music plays intermittently throughout the night along with upbeat party music.

In case you were wondering, Frosty’s will be open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
